n4a Takes Leadership on "12 Percent for OAA" Hill Event
On March 26, the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations (LCAO) held a briefing for Capitol Hill staff on the need for increased funding for the Older Americans Act (OAA). As a co-chair of LCAO's Community Services Committee, n4a staff played a major role in the production of the briefing, including moderating the panel of other LCAO members.
The approximately 25 Capitol Hill staff in attendance learned about each Title of the OAA--its overarching goals and vision; how it works at a state, local and consumer level; and what financial challenges it faces. LCAO is calling on Congress to support a 12 percent increase over FY 2009 in Older Americans Act programs for the coming fiscal year (FY 2010). n4a shares this goal and is already mounting grassroots and direct advocacy efforts to advance this cause.
