Fast Facts about the Eldercare Locator

  • The Eldercare Locator call center began operation in 1991 and the Eldercare Locator Website was launched in 2001. In 2008, the Eldercare Locator switched from a call center to a call routing system to provide more streamline access to local resources.
  • The call routing system connects callers directly to local Area Agencies on Aging nationwide to locate information and services for older adults and their caregivers. Callers can also order brochures, find local Indian Tribal Organizations, and request information in Spanish.
  • The Eldercare Locator receives over 135,000 calls annually (800.677.1116).
  • Calls are received 24 hours/day and 7 days/week, with peak call times from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Besides general information, other main categories that callers inquire about include Financial Assistance, Insurance, Caregiver Services, Transportation, Legal Services, Homecare/Healthcare and Housing.
  • The Eldercare Locator website receives more than 250,000 visits annually.
  • The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) administers the Eldercare Locator, a public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging (AoA).
