AAA and Title VI Research

The Aging Network needs information and tools to support the increasing number of older adults who are living at home and in the community. With funding from the Administration for Community Living, USAging supports the Aging Network by systematically tracking, analyzing and disseminating information on the evolving roles, services and trends of Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) and Title VI Native American Aging Programs. This initiative is implemented by USAging with support from Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University in Oxford, OH.

National Surveys of Area Agencies on Aging

Trends and New Directions

Conducted every three years, the comprehensive AAA National Survey captures trends related to AAA services, funding, partnerships and new directions. The survey report, toolkit, fact sheets and other related resources provide information for AAAs, policy makers, researchers, and other stakeholders to understand the evolving role of AAAs, benchmark services, advocate for funding or service needs.

AAA-Health Care Contracting

USAging’s Aging and Disability Business Institute supports AAAs and other aging and disability community-based organizations (CBOs) as they enter into contacts and develop partnerships with health care entities to better serve older adults and people with disabilities. To capture how aging and disability CBOs are partnering and contracting with health care entities, the Business Institute, in partnership with the Scripps Gerontology Center of Excellence at Miami University and with funding from The John A. Hartford Foundation, collects data on CBO-health care partnerships, contracts, services provided, financial impacts of partnerships, contracting challenges and more.

Title VI Native American Aging Programs Surveys

The Title VI program survey captures information about Title VI program administration and staffing, services available to tribal elders, funding and local needs. The national survey is conducted every three years. The survey report, toolkit, fact sheets and other related resources provide information for Title VI program staff, tribal leadership, policy makers, researchers, and other stakeholders to understand the evolving role of Title VI programs, benchmark services, advocate for funding or service needs.

Workforce Issues

Data from USAging shows that shortages in the caregiving workforce pose a significant threat to the ability of older adults to age well in their homes. Read the report detailing the impacts of workforce shortages on older adults and the agencies that serve them and access resources to mitigate workforce challenges and support your advocacy work.

Research Reports, Topical Polls, Case Examples and More

Using data from the national surveys, as well as topical polls and interviews, the Research program develops research briefs, fact sheets, case examples, webinars, slide decks and other tools for the Aging Network. Publications are available by subject area on the USAging Publications page.

AAA Homelessness Prevention Programs and Partnerships Case Examples

USAging developed the following homelessness prevention case examples featuring AAA programs and partnerships. Agencies can find inspiration and ideas to evolve their own work and partnerships to provide homelessness prevention assistance and housing-related supports for older adults and people with disabilities.
