n4a Aging Policy Briefing & Capitol Hill Day 2008

The n4a 14th Annual Aging Policy Briefing & Capitol Hill Day was a great success! Over 125 participants from AAAs, Title VI programs, Advisory Commissions, and other aging groups gathered in Washington, D.C. from April 28-30, 2008. After attending sessions on critical policy issues affecting older adults, advocates from across the country met with their Members of Congress to discuss their experience and the vital role of the Aging Services Network in promoting the quality of life of older Americans.

During the event, n4a and the National Association of State Units on Aging (NASUA) released details on Project 2020, their joint proposal for rebalancing the system of long-term care. In a three-pronged approach, Project 2020 will enable the Aging Services Network to implement the strategies authorized in the 2006 amendments to the Older Americans Act to provide consumer-centered long-term care services and supports.

Other top policy analysts, researchers and nationally recognized pollsters presented timely information that will be critical to the Aging Services Network this year. The latest information regarding Older Americans Act appropriations, CMS regulations on targeted case management, the digital television transition, senior transportation, Medicare and other healthcare policy were discussed.
