Apply for Person-Centered, Trauma-Informed Care Funding Opportunity

The Jewish Federations of North America's (JFNA) Center for Advancing Holocaust Survivor Care recently released an RFP to expand person-centered, trauma-informed services for Holocaust survivors throughout the United States. The Center is only accepting applications from other organizations that have never previously received direct funding from JFNA’s federal grant program.

n4a Submits Comments on Poverty Threshold Changes

The Trump Administration recently proposed changes to the measurement used to determine the federal poverty threshold—a move that could significantly affect the number of low-income older adults who qualify for means-tested programs such as Medicaid long-term services and supports; nutrition, housing and energy assistance; and help with Medicare costs, among others.

This week we're focusing on Promoting Collaboration, Partnerships and Quality Service, a program from the Central Plains Area Agency on Aging’s Kansas Statewide ADRC Call Center. The agency was a 2018 AIA winner in the Information Referral/Access to Services category.

Aging and Disability Business Institute Hits the Road

June has been a busy month for the staff of n4a’s Aging and Disability Business Institute. Earlier this month, Marisa Scala-Foley and Karol Tapias joined Larry Gross, CEO of Southern Maine Area Agency on Aging, in presenting on the important role of partnerships at the Age-Friendly Health Systems (AFHS) Action Community In-Person Community Meeting in Boston. Age-Friendly Health Systems is an initiative of The John A. Hartford Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in partnership with the American Hospital Association and the Catholic Health Association of the United States.

House Approves Long-Term Extension for Money Follows the Person

This week, the House passed a 4.5-year extension for the Medicaid Money Follows the Person (MFP) program. The bipartisan EMPOWER Care Act (H.R. 3253) was adopted by a bipartisan vote of 371-46. If your Representative voted for this bill, please consider thanking them for supporting MFP reauthorization. Advocacy efforts must now turn to the Senate where there is not yet a companion bill to the House-passed measure.

n4a Comments on Senate's Draft Bill to Reauthorize OAA

Earlier this month, the bipartisan Senate group working to reauthorize the Older Americans Act released a draft bill making modest changes to current OAA programs and services. n4a fully supports the ongoing bipartisan effort to achieve reauthorization and several of the proposals in the draft bill, but provided extensive comments about the legislation given the breadth of OAA programs and services that AAAs and Title VI aging programs administer.
