Congress Kicks Federal Funding Can Down the Road

With a new fiscal year starting on Tuesday and unfinished appropriations work piling up, Congress passed a short-term funding bill to ensure that the federal government keeps operating in the meantime. The stopgap measure finalized this week will give appropriators until November 21 to hash out their differences.

Survey Highlights Need for Medicare Education for Older Adults, Caregivers

n4a, in partnership with Anthem, Inc., released the results of a national survey conducted by The Harris Poll that provides insight into the confidence older Americans have in navigating their health benefits and managing their health. An infographic summarizing the survey findings shows that 59 percent of older adults surveyed reported some difficulty in navigating the health care system, such as understanding their bill/benefits, understanding their diagnosis and deciding on treatment, or communicating effectively with their health care providers.

ICYMI: A Busy Week for Aging Policy

We pushed out a lot of policy news and requests to n4a members this week, as Congress advanced both an Older Americans Act reauthorization bill and FY 2020 appropriations measures. The activity is driven in part by the September 30 deadlines for both types of legislation.

AAA Network Showcased at National Academies Workshop on Population Health

A recent workshop hosted in Washington, DC by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine addressed community partnerships and their effect on population health. n4a member A.J. Diamontopolous, Accountable Health Communities Project Manager with the Denver Regional Council of Governments AAA, and Marisa Scala-Foley, Director of n4a’s Aging and Disability Business Institute, presented at the workshop. 

Falls Prevention Awareness Day is Monday!

The annual recognition is Monday, September 23, and aims to raise awareness about injuries related to falls among older adults, and of course, how to prevent them.
