House Passes Bipartisan Bill to Reauthorize the Older Americans Act; n4a Urges Swift Senate Action

Today the Dignity in Aging Act was passed by a unanimous voice vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill would reauthorize the Older Americans Act (OAA) through 2024. The federal Older Americans Act, which expired on September 30, provides vital home and community-based services to more than 11 million older adults and caregivers each year.

Congressional Leaders Tackle Pervasive Problem of Isolation and Loneliness

This week, Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) and Representatives David Trone (D-MD) and Tim Walberg (R-MI) introduced the bipartisan Protecting Older Americans from Social Isolation Act of 2019 to support the Aging Network in addressing the epidemic of social isolation and loneliness.

Addressing Medicare Readmission Rates Through Partnerships with Health Care

To encourage hospitals to provide higher quality care and achieve better health outcomes, Medicare reduces payments to hospitals that have high rates of readmission, infections and injuries. AAAs and other CBOs are developing partnerships with health care entities to help reduce these rates while addressing the social determinants of health and creating new funding streams.

Business Institute On the Road Again in NY State

In September and October, staff from n4a’s Aging and Disability Business Institute are providing business acumen training to AAA staff in five New York cities (Albany, Buffalo, Lake Placid, New York City and Syracuse). The trainings are helping to prepare New York’s AAAs to play a leading role in the state’s delivery system reforms.
