We hope you saw the newest interview n4a’s CEO Sandy Markwood conducted with Shireen McSpadden, Executive Director of San Francisco’s Department of Disability and Aging Services. Shireen’s agency has been operating under a shelter-in-place order since March 16. Shireen’s perspective is unique as she is both a AAA director and president of the California Association of Area Agencies on Aging.

Congress recently passed two emergency spending bills to provide economic stimulus and supplemental funding for many federal programs, including Older Americans Act, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The first of those distributions is hitting the streets now.

IRS Confirms Automatic Stimulus Payments for Some Social Security Recipients

Amid confusion resulting from inconsistent federal guidance from the Internal Revenue Service, national aging advocates this week urged Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and the IRS to ensure that older adults receiving Social Security and railroad retirement benefits, even those who do not usually file a tax return, will receive stimulus payments without needing to file one. n4a has joined other advocates in weighing in with the IRS on this remaining issue.
