FDA Approves First New Drug for Alzheimer’s in 17 Years

Earlier this week, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Aduhelm (aducanumab) to treat people living with Alzheimer’s disease, the first new drug to treat Alzheimer’s disease in 17 years. This is a key decision, not only because of how long it has been since the last Alzheimer’s drug was approved, but also because this is the first Alzheimer’s medication directed at modifying an underlying cause of Alzheimer’s disease, plaque in the brain.

Commit to Connect: Interested in Joining a Network of Stakeholders Passionate About Addressing Social Isolation?

To address the growing public health issue of social isolation and loneliness, ACL established a public-private partnership called Commit to Connect to reach socially isolated older adults and people with disabilities to help them connect with services and supports to build the social connections they need to thrive. As part of this effort, which is coordinated by AARP Foundation with a broad array of partners, including n4a, a Nationwide Network of Champions to Address Social Isolation and Loneliness will launch in the coming weeks.

Don’t Miss Your Chance for Community Care Corps Funding!

The deadline is fast approaching for the second cycle of funding through the Community Care Corps. Through the grants it awards, the Community Care Corps seeks to fund innovative local models in which volunteers assist family caregivers or directly assist older adults or adults with disabilities with non-medical care to maintain their independence. Proposals are due July 9, 2021.
