n4a Submits Recommendations to White House Conference on Aging
On June 12, n4a submitted comments and recommendations to the 2015 White House Conference on Aging for consideration in finalizing a policy platform that will be announced at the July 13 event. The 2015 White House Conference on Aging (WHCOA), which will take place in DC on July 13, solicited responses and recommendations to the series of policy papers that were released this spring focused on the event?s four key issue areas. These priority areas include Healthy Aging, Long-Term Services and Supports, Elder Justice and Retirement Security, and the WHCOA is expected to announce its policy platform at the official event.
n4a responded to each of those issue areas in a letter to Nora Super, Executive Director of the 2015 WHCOA, emphasizing the value of the home and community-based services and supports offered by AAAs and the Aging Network. n4a also recommended that reauthorizing the Older Americans Act (OAA) and increasing federal funding for OAA programs by repealing budget caps and sequestration were critical cross-cutting issues that should be elevated beyond any individual issue area.
The letter also breaks down n4a?s 2015 Policy Priorities into the four key issue areas of the WHCOA and for each of those areas makes recommendations to the Administration. These recommendations focus on community-based care transitions activities, Chronic Disease Self-Management and falls prevention, mobility and community living solutions, Aging and Disability Resource Centers, Managed Long-Term Supports and Services, Elder Justice activities and emphasize the important role that home and community-based services play in keeping older Americans financially secure.
n4a will host a watch party on Monday, July 12 at n4a's Answers on Aging 40th Annual Conference and Tradeshow in Philadelphia to celebrate the 2015 White House Conference on Aging. We hope you will join us at the largest watch party of Aging Network professionals in the country. If you can't join us in Philadelphia, learn how to host your own WHCOA watch party!
