Lance Robertson was confirmed by the Senate as Assistant Secretary on Aging last week after a committee hearing and swift floor action on his and other non-controversial nominations.

Robertson will also serve as Administrator of the Administration for Community Living (ACL), a politically appointed post that—unlike the Assistant Secretary role—does not require Senate confirmation.

Robertson has served as Oklahoma's Director of Aging Services for the past decade, overseeing a range of programs that included the Older Americans Act and a large 1915c Medicaid Waiver. He was an administrator at Oklahoma State University for twelve years, where he co-founded the Gerontology Institute and directed a regional professional association, PartnerShips for Aging. He is a past president of the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities (NASUAD) and has served on numerous boards and commissions. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and has a B.S. from Oklahoma State University and Masters in Public Administration with Honors from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Since Robertson was not yet confirmed at the time of the n4a Conference, newly appointed Deputy Administrator of ACL Mary Lazare addressed the record crowd in Savannah on July 30. Robertson was sworn in today and will begin working in his official capacity as Assistant Secretary on Monday. We look forward to working with Assistant Secretary Robertson and his entire ACL team on issues of importance to AAAs, Title VIs and older adults and caregivers.
