n4a Submits Comments on Poverty Threshold Changes

The Trump Administration recently proposed changes to the measurement used to determine the federal poverty threshold—a move that could significantly affect the number of low-income older adults who qualify for means-tested programs such as Medicaid long-term services and supports; nutrition, housing and energy assistance; and help with Medicare costs, among others.

n4a's comments urge the Office of Management and Budget to reconsider its proposal due to concerns we have about the harm this change could have on economically and medically vulnerable older adults and their caregivers. Additionally, n4a noted that such a change could further strain non-means-tested federal programs serving low-income seniors, such as those authorized under the Older Americans Act.
