Accessible transportation is a key concern for many older adults. In fact, it is historically the top reason older adults and caregivers contact the Eldercare Locator. A new funding opportunity from the Community Transportation Association of America and partners, including n4a, will provide grantees with federal funding of up to $300,000 each to implement solutions that address barriers and issues older adults and people with disabilities may face with local transportation.

Grantees will be expected to weave together inclusive transportation planning, development and implementation with grassroots-driven mobility on demand solutions. Funded projects will work to fully engage older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers in partnership with transportation, planning and human services organizations to identify, develop and implement mobility on demand solutions that respond to local transportation barriers and issues, and test a standard way of sharing trip data to support coordination and mobility on demand.

As part of the application process, each community will be required to conduct an assessment of where the applicant community is on the Pathway to Inclusion, which may be downloaded from the www.transitplanning4all.org website where additional information about this funding opportunity may also be found.

This funding opportunity is made available by the Community Transportation Association of America and partners n4a, the Institute for Community Inclusion at UMass Boston and DJB Evaluation, with financial support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, ACL and in collaboration with the Federal Transit Administration. A teleconference to answer questions from interested applicants will be held on June 29, 2020. Proposals are due on July 31, 2020. See the Request for Proposals.
