Hot July Ahead for Lawmakers After Upcoming Recess

Members of the House and Senate will be in their districts and states during the next two weeks for the Fourth of July holiday recess. When they return, however, it won't be just the DC summer temperatures heating up—legislative activity will also be hot, with appropriations and COVID-19 relief legislation set to take the congressional stage.

In July, both the House and Senate are preparing to consider a dozen FY 2021 federal funding bills—including bills for Older Americans Act and other aging programs. Also, we expect that the Senate will finally start discussions on another round of COVID-19 relief legislation.
The lawmakers may get a holiday for the Fourth, but advocates should keep up the good work, using the recess to engage Members of Congress about the ongoing important supports for older adults and caregivers during the current health and economic crisis.
