Senate and House Democrats Introduce Elder Justice Act Reauthorization

Two months after Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) introduced the Emergency Support for Nursing Homes and Elder Justice Reform Act of 2020, S. 4182, to reauthorize the Elder Justice Act (EJA), Senate and House Democrats introduced their own proposal to extend funding for the EJA.

While both measures would reauthorize elder justice programs for several years, the measures differ in the scale and scope of support to EJA programs, they are an important step in demonstrating bipartisan support for reauthorizing landmark legislation to prevent, identify and address elder abuse. Aging and elder justice advocates are urging Congress to include provisions to reauthorize the EJA in the next COVID-19 response legislation.
