New Report Showcases IT Challenges and Opportunities

As AAAs expand services, diversify funding sources and partner with integrated care and evidence-based health and wellness programs, IT has become increasingly important.

Having effective information technology (IT) in place helps to better position AAAs to partner with hospitals, managed care organizations and accountable care organizations. These pathways are crucial as AAAs look to expand services, diversify funding sources, partner with integrated care entities and implement evidence-based health and wellness programs.

Report highlights:
  • Some AAAs have taken an innovative approach to IT development and data-sharing through the formation of statewide or regional networks of community-based organizations. Networks can provide a critical mass of services, expand the geographic reach and offer economies of scale.
  • AAAs reported entering client data an average of two times due to funder requirements and lack of system interoperability. AAAs rank eliminating duplicate data as one of their top goals.
  • Barriers to implementing IT changes include cost (initial cost, cost of sustaining systems) as well as data exchange and interoperability.
This report was funded through a grant from the Administration for Community Living (ACL) and was implemented through a partnership with Scripps Gerontology Center of Miami University.
