House Passes $14.2 Million Boost for Funding for OAA Title III B

This week the U.S. House of Representatives adopted an amendment from Reps. Martha McSally (R-AZ) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) to provide a long-overdue funding increase for OAA Title III B Supportive Services programs.

The amendment was accepted as part of a massive $1.23 trillion FY 2018 federal funding bill. While the overall bill will not make it through the Senate, it is a significant win for the Aging Network, and we should continue to push for this increase to be reflected in a final funding package.

Also this week, Congress successfully dodged a federal default and shutdown after passing a bill to extend both current funding authority and the debt limit until December 8. It is now up to lawmakers to agree to a longer-term funding plan, but the House and Senate have differing funding proposals for Older Americans Act and other aging programs. n4a's recent Legislative Update details the differences between the two measures. We will now be pushing for the highest of the levels to prevail: the House-passed OAA Title III B increase and the Senate's recommendations on SHIP, OAA Title V (SCSEP) and Elder Justice programs.
