Dementia Friendly Leaders Support Families for World Alzheimer's Day
In recognition of World Alzheimer's Day, Dementia Friendly America and Dementia Friends USA have joined a coalition of leading organizations to provide families, caregivers and individuals living with Alzheimer's with mobile solutions to stay connected while living in their homes and communities.
Through this partnership, Connected Living, a provider of social networking services to families and seniors, has pledged to make its app available free to Dementia Friends all across the country to spread awareness and make connections easier for those helping to make communities friendlier for those living with dementia and their care partners. The Connected Living app is just one of the innovative ways that technology can be applied to create dementia-friendly communities and help those affected by Alzheimer's better manage their daily lives. The app allows families and caregivers to establish secure, private social networks where users can requests rides, organize appointments, purchase groceries or create geo-fences to track the location of their loved ones.
Dementia Friends USA is a global movement that is changing the way people think, act, and talk about dementia. By helping everyone in a community understand what dementia is and how it affects people, each of us can make a difference for people touched by dementia. Through the work of over 35 national, leading organizations, the Dementia Friendly America initiative is catalyzing a movement to more effectively support and serve those across America who are living with dementia and their family and friend care partners. The lead organizations represent all sectors of community and are collectively leveraging their national reach to activate their local affiliates, members and branches to convene, participate in and support dementia friendly community efforts at a local level. n4a serves as the administrator for both programs.
