House Advances Money Follows the Person

There was a flurry of activity this week in the U.S. House of Representatives to advance a bipartisan effort that would reauthorize the Money Follows the Person (MFP) program. The efforts would provide a bump in federal Medicaid funding to states for the MFP program, which enables older adults and people with disabilities to transition from institutional settings back to the community.

On Thursday, leaders on the House Energy and Commerce Committee hosted a hearing and staff briefing to educate their colleagues about the importance of the program. On Friday the Health Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted to advance a short-term reauthorization for a vote by the full committee. The goal is to reauthorize the program before the end of the year. n4a's Advocacy Alert provides additional details about how local Aging Network advocates can take action. We also sent a letter to Congress supporting these bipartisan efforts.
