Dementia Friendly America member, the Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging (M4A), has developed an innovative program to provide customized training to its local fire and police departments. A small grant helped M4A develop training materials and recruit volunteer trainers. Find out more and consider if your community could replicate this great program!

After being one of 13 AAAs that received 2017 six-month $10,000 grant to develop its local Dementia Friendly Law Enforcement and First Responder training program, M4A recently received a one-year $10,000 grant to expand its training program, replenish all training materials and recruit new volunteer trainers. To date, the initiative has provided training to the police and fire departments in the city of Alabaster, Alabama on how they can support individuals with dementia who they encounter in their work and connect them to community resources.
