Progress Slows on Next Round of COVID-19 Relief

Earlier this week, Senate Republicans unveiled a suite of legislative measures totaling just over one trillion dollars to respond to the coronavirus pandemic. The measures, however, are limited in scope and do not include additional funding for fiscally struggling states, state Medicaid programs or safety net programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The Republican package includes very modest emergency funding for non-Medicaid programs that support older adults, including for Older Americans Act programs and services—and is inadequate to meet the continued and growing needs of older adults during the prolonged health and economic crisis.

n4a and our national Aging Network partner organizations are developing a response to urge congressional leaders to prioritize supporting older adults in the next phase of relief legislation. Also, we urge advocates to weigh in on the programs that are vital to ensuring older adults stay safe in their homes and communities during and beyond the pandemic. Use n4a's advocacy messages and tools to assist your efforts and stay tuned for updates from n4a.
