Statement of n4a CEO Sandy Markwood on the Introduction of Senate Bill 3057, the Modernization of the Older Americans Act Amendments

"n4a commends the introduction of a bipartisan Older Americans Act reauthorization bill in the Senate that would extend the Act for seven years, enabling n4a’s members to continue to plan, develop and deliver community-based solutions to help older adults age well at home and in the community. S. 3057, the Modernization of the Older Americans Act Amendments, is the first comprehensive OAA reauthorization bill introduced in the Senate and is a significant milestone toward achieving an updated OAA that reflects the needs of older adults and their caregivers.

We extend our thanks to original co-sponsors Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Bob Casey (D-PA), the Senate Special Committee on Aging leaders who have worked so closely with Senate HELP Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA) to advance OAA reauthorization in the Senate this year. n4a is particularly appreciative of the bipartisan process that allowed for ample and ongoing dialogue with aging experts and professionals at the community level.

With the bill’s release, n4a looks forward to working with the Senate and the House Education and Labor Committee’s leaders—whose OAA measure n4a endorsed in October—to push for final passage of the strongest possible bill this year or very early in 2020.”
