n4a Responds to House Passage of the American Health Care Act

In a May 12, 2017 letter to Majority Leader McConnell, Minority Leader Schumer and Members of the Senate, and in a letter addressed to Speaker Paul Ryan and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, n4a stressed opposition to the House-passed American Health Care Act (ACHA). Recognizing the adverse implications that this bill will have on the aging population and its caregivers, we strongly encourage members of the House and the Senate to instead take the time necessary to develop a proposal that will guarantee both access to health care in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and preserve and protect Medicaid.

The letters detail further objections to the bill, specifically focusing on structural changes to Medicaid and the elimination of the Prevention and Public Health Fund.

We strongly encourage leaders and lawmakers in both the House and the Senate to keep the aging of our population, and the significant impact of Medicaid on long-term care in mind, as they develop any proposals in replacing ACA.
